On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, blue sapphire rates 9 out of 10, so it is a very durable gem. The word 'sapphire' comes from the Greek word sapphirus which means blue.

I had hoped to reset this with a nicer gem and accents as I had done with this exact setting previously, but the lower shank is cracked and very thin. Looks to have been hammered out
