This is a doublet.The doublet has been made from natural crystal from Coober pedy back on to ironstone. It has been well polished and bezel set in silver.

WHAT IS A DOUBLET ?
Doublets consist of two layers adhered together with glue: A thin slice of opal (normally transparent crystal ). The thickness of the opal in a doublet can vary, however it is generally thicker than the opal found in a triplet. A black backing which is made of either black  glass, natural black potch (common opal), hard plastic or natural brown ironstone Note .we have taken the picture with a Nikon coolpix 4500  camera which captures a purple tone in the stone which our eyes cant see.This is a predominate blue stone.
