This is a natural Extremely Bright Carved Mexican Fire Opal.

This piece was made by Miguel Delgadillo a Wax Model Jeweller artist in Mexico City that has been teaching and working on the very heart of the Jewellery District of Mexico City for over 40 years.

Traditionally, jewelry models are produced by a jeweler who manually carves the wax with hand tools.

A wax model is part of the lost wax casting process. Instead of working directly in metal, the design is cast in wax. Jewelry waxes are not the same as soft paraffin or beeswax. They are hard and designed to be carved, filed, sawn and polished. Once the wax model is complete, it is covered with plaster coating and burned. The void left by the melted wax is the mold for the molten metal when it is melted.
